Displays

We're always trying to get people to read up a storm! Several of us do displays regularly. You may have noticed our new, big, "picket fence" display. It is currently featuring books "Too Good to Miss." We found some of those titles in books that are tools for librarians, some are staff picks, some we found by just reading some good reviews. We've also got some holiday cooking books featured on our small picket fence display. Recently, some featured football books flew out of here. If there is a subject you'd like to see highlighted, let us know. Putting together an appealing display is fun! Watch for an upcoming graphic novel display.

Our website

There is lot of interesting info to be found on our website. www.sailsinc.org/mansfield is just the home page...look there for links to our online tutoring, "Live Homework Help" as well as to our new "book your museum passes from home" convenience.

Need a little computer instruction?

A quick reminder...we have volunteer tutors to help folks who need help with using computers, be it Internet searching, using email, or word processing, excel, etc. Our reference librarian takes applications from people interested in tutoring, and from people interested in being tutored...then she matches them. The tutoring is done here in the library, at a time convenient to both tutor and student. Let us know if you are interested!

Internet Safety

Last night Police Chief Arthur O'Neill introduced Detective Michael Ellsworth and a team of police presenters on the topic of Internet Safety. Our group was small, but the program was very informative. The officers especially recommended the website www.netsmartz.org. I-Safe.org is also a great site.

Too Good to Miss

Check out our new display of books "Too Good to Miss." They're titles that library staff members enjoyed, titles that have been recommended to us, or titles that have appeared in the library literature (books, library-geared periodicals) as titles that are "sure bets"...sure to appeal to lots of people. Have you checked out our display of book-related magazines? All but the current issue of each of our magazine subscriptions is available for borrowing!

Live Homework Help

We're pleased to say that 52 Mansfield students used Live Homework Help in October! Average length of session was 16.10 minutes, and 7th graders asked for the most help...mostly in math. Other students received help in essay writing, algebra, physics, social students, and more. One student even received help in Spanish...not on the subject Spanish, but the tutoring was conducted in Spanish! Last month a lot of 10th graders asked for help in math. These statistics refer only to the grades and subjects...all students are unidentified, their privacy maintained. Please check out this terrific addition to our website, and let us know what you think. Feel free to call for more information. Live Homework Help is available 7 days a week from 4 p.m. until 10 p.m.

Book your museum passes on line!

We're delighted to offer you the convenience of booking your museum passes on-line, from home! Click on the above "Book your museum passes on line" and it will take you right to the correct website. Make sure you have your library card and your pin number handy, and make sure your card is not delinquent (ie too many items over due,l or money owed to us for fines, lost books, etc). When you click on the link, you'll see a list of all our passes and the dates they are available. Please call us if you have difficulty, but you'll find it is very easy. Later this week, there will also be a link right on our web site, under services. Watch for it!
