Of interest to parents and kids!

The NCES Kids Zone provides information to help you learn about schools; decide on a college; find a public library; engage in several games, quizzes and skill building about math, probability, graphing, and mathematicians; and to learn many interesting facts about education. NCES stands for the National Center for Education Statistics.

From the current home page:

Did you Know?

Our display case in December

Kris Riendeau, one of our very talented staff members, has put together a wonderful display of holiday trees that are decorated through inspiration received from children's books. Several of our other staff members, including Youth Librarian "Miss Kitty", Mary, Colleen, Marina, and Jessie, put together trees based on children's books. The projects were started after we purchased a book called FAIRY TALE CHRISTMAS, which includes creative projects suggested by children's books.
You can check out trees that represent BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, ALICE IN WONDERLAND, and several others.

Gifted AND with a learning disability?

We want to point out a magazine which doesn't get a lot of use, but should!
The name of this magazine is 2e: The Twice-Exceptional Newsletter. This is a bimonthly publication to which we've subscribed for several years. It is shelved in the youth department of the library. It is geared to parents and educators whose children are "twice exceptional"...children who are gifted yet learn differently because of learning disabilities or attention issues.
It includes feature articles, profiles of experts and organizations, columns, news of events, and book reviews and recommendations. Take a look!
